Slovak Wildlife Society wants to set up a sanctuary

What’s the connection between Alladale Wilderness Reserve and Slovakia?
The connection is bears and wolves. Mr Paul Lister owns Alladale Wilderness Reserve which is about an hours drive north of Inverness. Here, he has introduced moose and wild boar and has plans to introduce wolves. Not everyone is in favour of having wolves back in Scotland, especially some of the hill farmers, but that won’t stop these plans going ahead. Mr Lister has also talked about bringing back bears and to this end has been in contact with the Slovak Wildlife Society.
SWS is trying to set up a sanctuary for bear and lynx, two animals which are being affected more and more as man encroaches on their territory. Mr Lister’s plans will help to protect several European animals which are under threat – not that wild boar are particularly under threat. Several of them have escaped from boar farms in England and are enjoying themselves roaming the countryside and no doubt scaring the bejeesus out of walkers.
Both these two organisations - Alladale and the SWS offer holidays with a difference. SWS offers eco-tourism in the Tatras while Alladale offers accommodation in 23,000 acres of a beautiful part of Scotland.
Links to these organisations can be found on our links page.
